The Alstadt (Old City)
Salzburg is the fourth largest and important city in Austria and literally mean “Salt Fortress” since salt played an important economic role in development and trade. The city’s Alstadt, or old city, was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The Fortress Hohensalzburg is probably the most prominent site of the city and it sits atop the city giving the visitors the perfect view of the surrounding area.
